In December 2018, a committee led by Battalion Chief Joe Lissow, spent nearly one month preparing for an Insurance Services Offices (ISO) Assessment of the North Greece Fire District. This assessment reviews community hazard and fire protection factors such as training, staffing, water supply capabilities, communications and record keeping for incidents and training.  A large portion of this assessment also revolves around incident responses, specific response assignments, mutual assistance and ancillary fire services such as fire investigation and hazardous material mitigation.

North Greece’s last ISO Assessment was conducted in 2011 and the Fire District held a Fire Protection Rating of 3. For those unaware, fire protection ratings drive fire insurance premiums for commercial and industrial rate payers. The better the rating for the fire district, the lower the premiums for those classes of rate payers.

I’m elated to report that the fire protection rating for the North Greece Fire District was provided to me earlier today and that the new ISO Rating for North Greece is a Class 2 Fire Department!

While this might not seem to be important to most, this is a critical step for the Fire District today and for the future. Without saying much more, I’d ask you to take a moment to review the chart below as it clearly shows the ISO Ratings for the entire State of New York. All the hard work and dedication of our entire membership is reflected in this new rating. While not all the times are good and the road is never smooth, take pride in knowing everyone’s efforts over the years continues to pay dividends to our customers, the taxpayers of North Greece!
