John Amo, avid outdoors man, patriotic American, and “Group 4” member is retiring after 21 years of service to the North Greece Fire District. He has been a part of the Monroe County Special Operations Unit for the last 9 years and is trained in water rescue, rope rescue, building collapse and trench rescue.

John’s commitment to the fire service started well before he came to North Greece. He started as a volunteer firefighter in the Lake Shore Fire District back in 1988. After six years he was hired as a career firefighter by Lake Shore and then transferred to North Greece in 1997.

Beginning February 1, 2018, John will retire from a very full career. He received his Associates degree in Fire Protection Technology in 1991. Since the late-1980’s, he received numerous awards in recognition for his service. Just a few of these include the NY State Medal of Merit, the NCNYVFA Firefighter of the Year, the Fireman’s Association Certificate of Merit, a state Legislative resolution, a Monroe County certificate of recognition, a NY State Assembly Citation, a Town of Greece Certificate of Recognition, and the North Greece Fire District Recognition of Bravery and Heroism.

John, your North Greece Fire family thanks you for the privilege of working with you, and for the many years of dedicated service to our community. You’ve had a great career. Best wishes for a happy retirement.
